ipod stuck in disc mode?

Today when i tried to use my ipod, i started to play a song and the ipod froze. i reset it, and when it turned back on it was in disc mode. when i try to plug it into my computer, it is only recognized by windows and not by itunes so i cant restore anything. it says connect to itunes to restore ipod every once in a while, but this obviously isnt working. when its plugged into my computer, it just says do not disconnect the whole time. what am i supposed to do? my ipod is a video with 80 gb memory.

Same exact thing just started happening with my ipod like 2 days ago. Ive tried everything!!! I took very good care of it. Ive had it for about 5 months or so. I had a rubber casing on it which minimized any shock from bumping around. It worked perfectly the night before. I woke up to go out for a walk and thought i left it on cause it looked like i needed to just charge it. But then when i plugged it in i got that error message to restore with itunes. Windows reconizes it but wont format it. Itunes wont recognize it at all. When i plug it in to the usb it starts to charge, and a window pops up sayin intunes needs to format this drive. would you like to open itunes to do this. I say yes, itunes pops up, and nothing. There is no ipod in itunes. ??????????????
