WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!

today my ipod touch (1st gen) acted funny at first the home button would not exit out of any applications (but the music menu worked) so i kept pressing the button and nothing was happening. So then i put it in standby...and the home button would still not work. HERE COMES THE EXCITING PART!!! i put it in standby again and when i pushed the home button the home screen flashed and turned to "THE WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH" and it has been about 8.5 hours now and there still is "THE WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!" help me please!!!!

ipod touch 1st gen 8gb, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

This same happened to me last week. I could not exit the white screen, even when plugged into my Mac. I resorted to a FULL RESTORE via iTunes. It took well over an hour and the order/layout of my apps were lost. Otherwise, everything else is back to normal.

Anyone else have any recommendations?

can anyone help me please? i switched on my ipod touch 2g on today and the screen is all white, restored it coule of times already still the same. the odd thing is everything works - plays music i can hear all the sounds, but all this is hidden behind that white screen. please help

a full restore is pretty much the final solution that anyone here can offer you. if that doesn't work it is time to take it to an apple store.

My music was playing behind the white screen as well. The restore did correct the problem for me. I don't know why it didn't for you. How long does the Restore take for you? You have 2 options to restore to: the backup (which is what I did) or as new (default apps only).

I get the white screen as well. I have a 2nd Gen. 16GB and have tried resetting and restoring several times. The restore took over 2 hrs to complete. The odd thing is everything works fine if the USB cable is connected into the iTouch - doesn't have to be connected to the computer. As soon as I remove the USB cable from the iTouch screen goes white and I can't do anything. Can anyone help? I am no where near an Apple store and have limited internet access to try and download the new 2.2.1 software. Thanks

i have that on my i-pod 2g now. Can't figure out how to fix it. Try calling the apple support or something. please reply if you fix it.

so if you restore it works but you lose all your apps? Do they stay on itunes so you can just download them again?

when did you get your i-pod? Did you get a warranty? If you can find the recipt or the warranty you can bring it back. I'm gonna bring mine back and see if they will exchange it.

As I already stated, it totally restored my iPod to its state before the white screen of death, except it moved all my apps into alphabetical order. Even my high scores were saved. My iTunes apps/music were untouched. Note that there is also an option to restore the iPod to its virgin state.

try opening up your ipod, and removing, cleaning and reenstalling the connector for the screen. that has seemed to work for all my phones and ipods that have had the same problem.

If a simple Restore fixed my problem, it would be a software problem. Your fix indicates a hardware problem, which I'm not prepared to believe is the source of the white screen mentioned by the OP.

i resolved this on my own simply by putting my ipod into my dock and pressing play because i missed my music. what happened was after i hit play the white screen of death faded away and my ipod worked as good as old and dented (a.k.a. the way i had it before the white screen)
