ipod a1040 wont charge

So I bought this ipod when it was new and I havent used it for a few years. I bought a new battery and replaced it. The battery wont charge. I left it plugged into the computer for an hour and I got nothing. I tried to restore (restart?) and do the disc mode thing but to no avail. Now it is completely dead and I cant even turn it on. Any suggestions?

What is an a1040?

Your computer did not go to sleep while charging the iPod did it?

A wall charger is better for charging a completely depleted battery, but if you do not have one connect your iPod to the computer again, charge it for 30 minutes and then Reset your iPod while it is connected to power. You may have to try it several times. If it comes on, fully charge it. If it does not there is a possibility you didn't install the battery correctly or you may have received a defective battery.
