external hard drive

I attempted to use a SAMSUNG SP2514N Media external hard drive, my computer would not read this drive, it gives me options,

(1.) initialize (2.) ignore (3.) eject when I choose initialize it takes me to disk utility, from their I verify, and it reads as unrecognized filesystem. when i chose info. it tells me I have a samsung SP2514N Media, usb device tree /pc10/ehc1@1d,7/@3:0 writable- yes / total capacity 232.0 GB / S.M.A.R.T. Status: not supported. I'm wondering if I can initialize and use this external hard drive, if i can how do it initialize step by step. any ideas out there.

samsung sp2514n media, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

You want to use PARTITION tab OPTIONS to change from Windows Master Boot Record to GUID.

Believe or not, Help menu in Disk Utility usually is all you need to help with using its features.
