When I receive an message Mail automatically replies with a message that has a blank message body, why is that?

Hi again:

You can stop worrying about a virus. There are NO documented viruses that affect a Mac running OS X - none.

That arricle does noit reference mobile me. The article is directed at people who use Mac mail as their E-mail platform. What mail platform do you use? For example, I use AOL as my mail platform but have it integrated to the Apple Mail program.

Before I suggest anything else, I want to be sure I have complete information.

Also, when you get a chance, please post complete information in your profile (see mine below). That will give everyone background information.

Hi again as well,
Good news about the virus info, being a previous PC owner, I still find that baffling.

Would Comcast be the answer to your question regarding E-mail platform? If not let me know and I'll dig something up.

I updated my profile per your request so hopefully that will help you out.

Perhaps this is related to my email problems, or not, but my internet connection has been crashing on me all day. I checked the connection with two other computers hooked to the same router, both PC's, and it's working fine for them.

Thanks again for your help.

J

Hello again j:

Pardon my typo spelling in the last post - I must have ignored the spell check highlights.

What is the domain name for your E-mail (don't give me the whole thing)?

Mine, for example, is ME@aol.com. If your E-mail provider is Comcast, they would have a place to modify/setup your personal E-mail preferences. Many E-mail platforms (Outlook and many others) have an auto-reply feature that can be enabled.

The crashing may (or may not be related). Connectivity is not my strong suite. Try posting a new thread on that issue in the networking forum here:

Barry,
I went into my mail preferences at comcast.net and the Enable Auto Reply had the "no" box checked next to it. Do you think this could be a Comcast issue and not with my Mac? I can give them a call and explain if you think this issue would fall under them. No one else in the house, who are on PC's are having this problem and they are all under the Comcast umbrella, hmmmm.

I uninstalled Safari and reinstalled and now it seems everything is working fine. One out of two aint so bad.

Hi J:

You might try one more thing. Drag the preference file (com.apple.mail.plist) to the trash (don't empty it just yet). Restart the computer. OS X builds preference files with default values as needed. See what happens with the reply problem now. If it is fixed, reenter your own personal preferences.

I did this once to fix a different issue. As I recall, I did lose the previous inbound messages. In my case, my mail is on a server, so I had no difficulty. You might also take a look at the mail help information about archiving and restoring mailboxes.
