I cannot even sync 1 photo onto my Ipod because of the problem that says "the ipod "XXXXXXXX's ipod" cannot be updated. the required file cannot be found." I dont understand why that is happening. I have checked that the format is GIF which is compatible, and i have checked that the files exist. Please help me.

I just ran into this problem myself. What happened was that five photos from my camera had somehow become corrupt. I had to go through a trial-and-error process of loading select groups of albums until I found the one album that was causing the problem.

Once I found problem album I then started removing the most recent photos from the album until the iPod synced successfully. I took the offending photos and resaved them in Photoshop. Once they were imported back into iPhoto they updated without a hitch.

You can start this procedure by hooking up your iPod to the computer and launching iTunes. From there, click the button with iPod icon at the right hand bottom of the iTunes window to launch the iPod prefs (first out of the four at the right).

Then click the Photos tab. From there select the "Copy Selected Albums Only" option and then start uploading indvidual or small groups of albums. I'd leave "Include full-resolution photos" off in order to speed up the process.

Note that I'm using a Mac. If it's just damaged photos this should work with a PC as well. It's a little bit of a pain but hopefully this will help. Post back and let me know how everything turns out.

Happy New Year,

Try doing the same thing with your music, as opposed to your photos. The check marks next to the songs in iTunes determine whether they will be updated to your iPod. For example, if you have 20 songs and you check 8, only those 8 will update to the iPod.

Try updating with songs only first. This will help isolate the problem's source.

It might be worth double checking what song formats you're trying to update. Are you trying to copy over copy-protected WMAs? I'm not sure how iTunes plays with those files. (I'm on a Mac, so I unfortunately have limited experience with that format.)

Hope this helps. Post back and let me know how you make out. Happy New Year!

Sorry ive taken ages to reply.

All my music is fine and that updates perfectly strangely so does album art. It is just purely my own photos that u try to update that causes the problem.

I have reset etc and done EVERYTHING including getting a brand new ipod colour isplay and i stilll get this same error message.

I'm starting to accpet defeat unless you can think of anything else...

Cheers, Dan

Hey, Dan:

Sorry you're having such a rough time with the photos. I do quite a bit of troubleshooting on the side and know how frustrating it can be!

Since the problem has been replicated with a new iPod, the photos seem to be the culprits. I would take just a few and save them out of an image editor as new jpegs. I'm an illustrator so I've got Photoshop at my disposal, but a decent consumer level (read: much cheaper) program (Photoshop Elements, etc.) should suffice.

Let me know what platform and photo organization tool you're using. I'm on a Mac, so I'm a little hazy on how photos are updated to an iPod on a PC. It should be fairly easy to find out though.

It's also possible that maybe the settings on your camera have gone south, but that seems a bit of a long shot. Maybe taking new pix with a different camera, or the same camera with a new memory card would make the difference.

The main thing to remember is to try to update with new photos, regardless of how they are created. The old ones, for whatever reason, seem to be corrupt.

Good luck and let me know how it works out.

Hi,

I've got Photoshop cs2 so ive tried resaving selcted photos under different formats and names and in different place but it doesnt seem to make a difference.

To import the photos in windows then u click on a button at the bottom of iTunes that rings up the options for the iPod. There is a tab within this called photos and then your are MEANT to just select the folders from 'My Pictures' that you want to be transferred to your iPod.

I am still getting that annoying "cannot be updated file cannot be found....."

Any other suggestions????

Thanks, Dan

Hey Dan:

Man, this is a tough one. Can you have iTunes upload photos from a folder other than "My Pictures"? I would create a new folder, take a couple of new photos and then place them there.

Other than that, I'm running out of ideas. My Windows troubleshooting is rudimentary, at best. How about temporarily syncing the iPod to another computer and seeing if it will upload photos from the new one?

Let me know how it works out. Talk to you later.
