Some MP3 format songs do not play on iPod Classic, but are fine on iTunes!

I have several songs that I ripped from CD's into iTunes over the years. Some of these are in MP3 format. Some of the MP3 songs play fine on the iPod Classic 120gb. They all play fine on iTunes and on my old iPod Click Wheel.

I have tried several things:
a) removing ART WORK from the iPod synch (no change)
b) some backlight trick suggested by another iPod Classic user (no change)
c) converting ID3 tags (no change)
d) converting songs to AAC format (this worked, but do not want to identify every MP3 file with this problem and do the conversion).

So far, I have identified over 20 albums with this problem and I am only half way through the alphabet.

Any suggestions? Any one?

Thanks,
Nick

thank you TT2 for the suggestion, but this DOES NOT SOLVE the problem!

The MP3 Validator program does find "MPEG Stream Errors" with many of the MP3 files that are problems on iPod Classic, but after fixing them with MP3 Validator and resynching the iPod Classic the problem still persists.

When trying to play the songs in problem, the iPod skips over them and after several retries, the iPod locks up and needs to be reset.

Thanks for your help.

PS - are you a person or a machine?

I just got my brand new iPod this weekend. Same thing - it absolutely refuses to play certain songs. I used the mp3 validator first, and no fix. Then I tried the mp3 Repair Tool (both mentioned above). In each case I renamed the file and removed the original from the library, then added the new file to the iTunes library. They play fine in iTunes but flash briefly on the screen before it skips to another song.

If anybody has found a fix to this, please post.

It seems to me that the quickest and easiest route would be to first try and re-rip the songs/albums. Make sure that your PC is not doing anything else while ripping - iTunes is a resource hog and you may introduce some artifacts into the MP3s that the iPod just can't deal with.

I have almost 13000 tracks (over 1000 albums), about 95% ripped direct from CD. I occasionally find albums that have one or more tracks that have problems. Once re-ripped, and synced back to the iPod, they play fine.

One thing I've noticed, however. If you re-rip the tracks at exactly the same bit rate, the songs are not replaced on the iPod. You must first delete the tracks and resync prior to re-ripping.
