Ipod keeps pausing randomly!!! WE NEED A FW UPDATE

I'm still having that annoying pausing in my ipod photo when using third party headphones. Apple needs to disable that function. Please I urge everyone having this problem to make this problem known. I demand a response from mac. Please if anyone has any suggestions post a reply. Thanks

Yep, same problem here. I bought a set of Sony headphones, put all my music on and it has started to pause randomly on any given track.

I've also encountered the 'do not remove' message displaying continuously on the ipod after I had updated it. I tried to safely remove the ipod, but this wouldn't work either.

Only been using it a few days after paying £475 for it in the US, not a good start is it.

Thought I'd register my disappointment as from what other users have been saying above, it appears that Apple aren't being very proactive in fixing these problems!

Has anyone else noted this?"

I have not noticed any difference since applying the latest firmware update. I'm surprised that this problem hasn't been resolved already since I've seen mentions of it in the discussions dating back to March. I would think there would have been some response from Apple over the last 4 to 5 months. Apple must be taking lessons from Mr. Gates. 😉 I hope everyone is leaving "formal" feedback for Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html

Same problem here, I bought a previous model 40gb photo a couple weeks ago. I just bought some sennheisers today, and immediately noticed this happening. I think the pause on removing headphones is a cool feature, but it needs to be disabled at this point if the ipod is having problems determining this. I can just barely move the plug and it pauses, but there is no audio distortion, so the plug itself SHOULD be fine. I love the iPod and no way am I giving it up for something else, but this is a seriously annoying problem.

I have IPOD Photo 60 GB with ORIGINAL earphones and it STOPS randomly, i have expended a lot of cash in this ipod and I think apple should start looking a little here, i am tired of having no official reply to this problem. We only ask that feature to be able to be disabled from an options menu in the next FW update. Please, this is no Joke, i have spent a hole month sallary for my ipod and i cant use it properly with ALL original parts.

I have been sending responses to customer service for this exact same problem for weeks/months now. No response. It seems only a few minority of us are having this problem, therefore it's not widespread (or profitable) enough for Apple to respond to the few of us. It seems this problem varies in severity. My iPod photo 30gig only randomly pauses with certain 3rd party headphones (e.g. my favorite pair that I now can no longer use, and I'm forced to use the default ipod headphones). It's annoying, but I see absolute no help from Apple in the near or distant future. My suggestion? Return it. You have a bonafide and legitimate complaint. I contacted customer support about this exact problem and (surprise surprise) they had no knowledge of its existence (neither did any employees/technicians at the Apple store here in NY... which I find hard to believe...) In sum, you have a 1 year warranty. The first 6 months, Apple will even pay for your shipping. Take advantage of that. Call up the hotline now.

My iPod has been having this problem from the day I received it, which was at the beginning of January. I have the 4g 20 GB one. I've contemplated sending it in many times, but never have and now I'm just fed up. If I brought my iPod to an Apple store, would they help? And would they fix the problem or replace the iPod if they did help? Also, are there any apple brand headphones that don't create this problem but are still good quality? (I hate the ones that came with it...)

Yes, the Apple store would honor the warrant the same as the "mail in" method. Just make sure you have all receipts/proofs of purchase, etc. Their first course of remedy would be to repair the iPod. If that fails, they would then have to replace it. HOWEVER, keep in mind, that even if they "repair" your iPod and return the exact same one back to you, the harddrive might be erased (thus all your songs). So back it up!

It's very hard to tell which 3rd party headphones will work for your iPod because it seems everyone's "random pausing" problem is different. Some ppl report the default headphones work, some claim they don't. I think it's on a case by case basis. Your best bet, go to a store that lets you test out the headphones. Or just keep the receipt in case they don't work and return/exchange. Hope this helps.
