MobileMe Gallery

iPhoto 09 decided that it can't sync galleries with MobileMe. The message says;
"An error with the publication of album xxxx. Your MobileMe account information is not correct. The provided login or password is not valid."

Restarting iPhoto, signing out of MobileMe and signing back in using System Preferences don't fix it. As far as I know, it was working fine until yesterday. Except for adding photos, etc., I haven't made any changes to iPhoto or my MobileMe account. Accessing my MobileMe account through Mail, through the web, etc. all work fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jay

Thanks for the suggestion. I used Keychain First Aid (Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid) to verify the keychain. It didn't find any problems.

Since my first post on this topic, I tried syncing the iPhoto Galleries to MobileMe from my laptop as well as our iMac (the computer where I first noticed the issue). The error message is the same on both computers. MobileMe syncing of Bookmarks, Mail Accounts, Contacts, iDisk, etc. seems to be working just fine.

Hi again,

I don't have a fix for this but I think I have a pretty good idea what the problem is - at least in this particular case.

iPhoto believed that the MobileMe name or password were incorrect even though they were correct in the MobileMe System Preferences. I recalled that I had changed the MobileMe password a couple weeks ago (sometime after installing iPhoto 09), and perhaps iPhoto was still expecting the old password. To check this out, I changed the password back to what it had been and the Gallery synch now works just fine.

I sent this to Apple using the iPhoto Feedback menu selection.

Same problem -- I changed my password a week ago and Gallery syncing hasn't worked since. I reverted to the old password, and it started working again. Changed the password again and Gallery stops working, even after signing out/in with the MobileMe preferences.

I found a better work-around, though. Just create a new Mobileme Album from iPhoto and they will all suddenly start working.

Its clearly caching the old password somewhere, and creating a new gallery seems to flush it out.

The keychain probably has the old password still.

Open the following Application: Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access
Look for an entry called publish.me.com and remove it.
Log out and log in.

Let me know how it goes.

Making a new Gallery seems to have worked as well. It could be that the keychain isn't updated until iPhoto preforms a task that needs to write to the keychain rather than read.

Hi,

It looks like that is it. Here are the steps I took to check it out.

1. Opened Keychain Access and double clicked on publish.me.com
2. Checked the "show password" box. It displayed my current MobileMe password.
3. Changed my password on the MobileMe website.
4. Opened MobileMe in System Preferences. It correctly said the password had changed and asked for the new one. I entered the new one.
5. Opened iPhoto and tried to access one of the albums in the gallery. It didn't work (as expected) because it thought the MobileMe password was incorrect.
6. I went back to Keychain Access and looked at the publish.me.com password. It was still the old password.
7. I deleted publish.me.com from Keychain Access and signed out/in to MobileMe in System Preferences (using the new password).
8. The albums in the iPhoto gallery update correctly and the publish.me.com password in Keychain Access is now the new one.

So it looks like deleting publish.me.com in Keychain Access forces it to get the new password when you sign in to MobleMe.
