sorry, unable to allocate memory or system resource to complete operation

I receive the above error message when attempting to scan drawings with an HP Scanjet G4010. HP says I should adjust my virtual memory which I cannot locate on my iMac. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

mmh! and hello to Canada! 🙂 there is another discussion on virtual memory adjustment, however, it seems that this had not been tested ⚠ by the author: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040809191855264

HOWEVER:, this (solved apple) discussion seems to contradict the above and reckons that it is not possible to do so:

I find it unusual that your HP printer should demand that sort of action. Have you tried "vuescan" http://www.hamrick.com/ to operate your scanner?

I had the same problem with my HP Photosmart C5250. I tried closing everything, restarting my iMac, still had the problem. I Installed VueScan. It said it couldn't find my scanner. It said to turn the scanner off, then on. When I did it started working again (in HP ScanPro, no more "Sorry, unable to allocate memory or system resource to complete operation").

I have been having the same trouble with my HP Photosmart C4480 scanner. I just get the "Sorry, unable to allocate memory or system resource to complete operation" error message and can no longer scan.

I have tried restarting my Mac, restarting the printer, I have installed Vuescan, I have re-installed the HP drivers & software - NOTHING WORKS!!!!

sorry, unable to allocate memory or system resource to complete operation
