Sound Enhancer Causes Distortion

Recently, I found that a number of songs in my iTunes library sound distorted in certain parts. When I disable Sound Enhancer, the distortion disappears. Unfortunately, it returns when I re-enable Sound Enhancer. This may be a bug in iTunes 8. I don't remember this problem occurring in earlier versions.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a workaround?

Oh my goodness! I actually thought my speakers were dying because the vocals sounded so faded out when I listened to anything on iTunes but the audio was great on my iPod. Especially the new Coldplay album. I thought, this doesn't sound right? Then I noticed in the last month that when I listened to music through Myspace everything sounded 'normal' again. I just did a search on the forum and came across the sound enhancer problem. It really is that darn sound enhancer! I disabled it and everything sounds perfect again. I'm so happy, I almost bought new speakers. lol

Holy cow, thanks for the tip on this. My entire music library has sounded distorted for the longest time (yes since long before iTunes 8), and I already went through at least 2 rounds of speakers.

But I have a nice set of Logitech THX surround speakers which sound great, and now that I play lots of DVDs on my speakers, as well as watch TV shows through EyeTV, the sound is incredible. I came to realize that the distortion only occurs via iTunes, not via my speakers.

So I searched online and found your post. Turned off Sound Enhancer and distortion is gone! Wow, thanks for this!

Sorry I am not answering your question but I like the way it sounds without this so-called "enhancer."
