Error -2096 when accessing iTunes Store

Anytime I try to update applications or log into my account I receive this error message (after about 30-60 seconds of "Accessing iTunes Store"):

"We cannot complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occured (-2096)."

I've had this problem for a couple days now. I see that it's a fairly common problem, but generally this error code (2096) relates to Quicktime on Windows, and I'm running a MacBook.

I'm currently on hold with a customer service agent who has no clue. Funny enough, his first step in trying to solve the problem was to search these very forums, of course to no avail. It's pretty ridiculous that there are so many iTunes errors that Apple is absolutely clueless about.

As I said, I know others have had this problem. I don't see any new topics on this error so I thought I would revive it here. Any addition help or suggestions?
