documents folder in Dock has big question mark

My documents icon in the dock has a big question mark on it and it will not open by clicking on the icon. My documents folder is still in the finder with all my docs but I can't open it. Also, every time I try to open it I get a msg saying that my connection to the server is bad....

Any ideas?
