iTunes only plays parts of some songs

Hello,

I have a macbook with iTunes 7. There are about 2000 songs in my library, probably 10% will only play the first 5 seconds of the song. Then iTunes goes to the next song on the playlist. The problem is repeatable, always the same songs.

I assumed the actual mp3 files were bad. So, I copied and replaced all the songs from my old computer to the new iTunes library using the finder. This was quite a project, but did not solve the problem.

So, now I have two problems.

I could rerip the music from my CDs, if I could come up with some efficient way to figure out which songs were bad. reripping all the songs is just too large of a project to contemplate.

or

Is there some rebuild or utility in iTunes that might fix this?

It also occurs with the songs when I play them on my ipod.

None of the problem songs are purchased from the iTunes store, so it is not some authorization issue.

It seems that I have the same problem.
While am working on the Mac, I often listen music on iTunes 8.0.2 (iMac G4 OS X 10.4.11) with Shuffle On, Repeat Off, I notice some pieces doesn't play completely and change before the end.
Opening the music file with Sound Studio, I saw that a part is missing (Waveform is flat). Sometime only few second at the end, but sometime only few second left at the beginning !
What could have gone wrong ? How to fix this ?
Thanks for any help you can give,

(I looked on my BackUp Disk to restore the full missing number. Unfortunately, it seems that SuperDuper "Sand Box" has already BackUp and replace the right full numbers with the defect one !)
