Should midi keyboard show up in audio preferences?

I have been trying to get my midi keyboard (M-Audio Keystation 49e) to play through my computer. I had it working until I tried to open the Audio MIDI Setup app and the app crashed and I can't get the keyboard to work. The keyboard shows up in System Profiler, and as I say, it worked earlier with Garage Band.

Should midi keyboard show up in audio preferences? Can I get an updated version of the midi utility? How do I check out this problem? Thanx.
