Airport Extreme dropout

On starting up my iMac, airport is frequently not found, but if I immediately turn it off and then on in the menu bar, it functions just fine. Occasionally after a few hours of use the signal goes away, but once again if I turn airport off and then on the signal immediately reappears. I don't know if this is a problem with the iMac or with the Airport Extreme.

iMac5,1 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Turn down the multicast rate, that the min link speed the base station will maintain a link.

Also check your network pref pane and make sure only your network is on the preferred networks list.

The multicast rate change seems to have worked. Very occasional signal drop, still don't know why.
