Suddenly the camera on my iphone 3g stopped working today. I focus it and press the button; the shutter goes (although I don't hear a click), and then it just exits out to the home page. And no picture is there.
What version of the iPhone software is running on the iPhone? Just tap Settings> General> About on the iPhone.
Try resetting the iPhone as neuroanatomist suggested, if the issue persists try restoring the iPhone. This article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744 will walk you through restoring the iPhone.
Tried both suggestions. Will Apple replace my phone? Don't want a refurb. Actually I would be nervous about replacing the one that I have, because until this camera thing I have never had any problems with the phone, NONE.
If the phone is under warranty and is defective, the Genius Bar will offer you a service unit as replacement. This can be new or refurb. There is no way to tell as both look the same.
Guess I will have to live without a camera; the phone is under warranty, in perfect condition, never been dropped, etc. Unfortunately I live around 2 hours from the nearest Apple store and I can't spend an entire day on it.
You know that you don't need to get to the store to send it in for warranty?
And why would you not want the camera to get fixed or have a whole phone.. But if you're not gonna sell it after a year or two, and can live without the camera i guess it's ok to be without đ
Btw, i think however you could restore your phone all by yourself with doing a total restore. Just back up whatever you got on the phone before like in the link that is given above.
If the reset and restore did not resolve the issue, contact AppleCare for mail-in repair.
