iTunes doesn't recognize my CD drive

I recently swapped out a Lite-On CD-RW drive with an older TDK CD-RW drive (16/10/40x model). While the TDK drive functions flawlessly in every other application when I try to use it with iTunes it's like it doesn't exist. If I place a CD in the tray it doesn't show up on the screen. I can't manually import files from the file menu or play music, even if I select the file through my computer and tell it via auto play to do something in iTunes. I have another sony regular CD drive which works (but is very slow and will soon be removed) and my Lite-On drive functioned fine. I updated the firmware on the CD drive but there are no drivers for it because it's supposed to be plug and play through XP. I emailed TDK about it but they haven't responded so any help would be much appreciated.

I have one suggestion. Maybe you need to uninstall the itunes software so that it can properly locate your CD drives. It sounds like a software problem since the drive works with everything else. I'm thinking that if you changed the CD Rom drive since installing Itunes, then the .inf file for the old CD Rom drive isn't there anymore and Itunes doesn't update the drives when it starts up. Or, maybe some of the old files for the previous CD rom drive are still present and confusing Itunes. I would try uninstalling Itunes, restart, delete the Itunes directory and reinstall it.
