Buffalo LinkStation-Needs Port Forwarding

MacBook Pro 10.5.5
Time Capsule 500 gig 7.3.2

Buffalo link Station - it tells me that - in order to access the data over the internet, that I need to:

‘Auto-Configure Firewall’ is also recommended if your router supports UPnP (most do since 2001).
If you choose not to enable this, you must manually configure your router and firewall to forward
internal port 9000 to the Internet.

So I need to know how to forward.

I now where to find it in Airport Utility - but I don't know what to do. How do I fill in the fields?

Service?

Public UDP?
Pubic TCP?
Private IP?
Private UDP?
Private TCP?

I do not have a static IP address I have Comcast.
I have no other things - that I know - using any ports other than the standard Mac OS X internet access.

Many thanks.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Configure both UDP and TCP public and private to use port 9000 if that's the instructions you have. Set the IP address to the IP address assigned to the computer. You can find that by opening Network preferences which should tell you what your computer's IP address is. Will be something like 10.0.1.xxx, for example. You can name the service whatever you wish.

With all due respect:

you state:

Configure both UDP and TCP public and private to use port 9000 if that's the instructions you have. Set the IP address to the IP address assigned to the computer. You can find that by opening Network preferences which should tell you what your computer's IP address is. Will be something like 10.0.1.xxx, for example. You can name the service whatever you wish.

What IP Address?
I posted a clear and precise question. I dont' need generic answers - i need to know what to fil in the blanks as stated above.

thank you -having trouble with my kb.

and specifically

Configure both UDP and TCP public and private to use port 9000 if that's the instructions you have.

Yes - my question is how - don't repeat my question and then tell me to do it - that's what I am asking
I am asking how to "configure" as you state.

You state

Set the IP address to the IP address assigned to the computer. You can find that by opening Network preferences which should tell you what your computer's IP address is. Will be something like 10.0.1.xxx, for example. You can name the service whatever you wish.

You stated, "I now where to find it in Airport Utility - but I don't know what to do. How do I fill in the fields?" If you don't know how to enter data in the fields, then I don't know how to help you. My answers were not "generic." Perhaps you need to read my answer. It's very simple.

Fill in the port number - 9000 is the port you stated. Fill in your computer's IP address from your Network preferences.

Try not to be so rude to people who are trying to help you.

I'm not being rude.
I'm asking for help.
I've been a Mac user since 1985
And a Starmax owner in the 90's - so I know SCSI, networks, USB and lots of other things.
I also know networks, TCP, IP and all seven levels of protocols.
I just do not know the TC port forwarding method - and it is not described anywhere.

I've posted on these help forums for PB G3's and G4's and won awards from Apple.

I simply do not know the rules for port forwarding a TC

when you advise to

"Fill in the port number - 9000 is the port you stated. Fill in your computer's IP address from your Network preferences"

Tell me where - the TC menu has the following :

Service?

Public UDP?
Pubic TCP?
Private IP?
Private UDP?
Private TCP?

What do I enter and where?

to say "fill in the port number" is like saying "well just check on the internet - you'll find your answer there"

If you can't help - ok

Anyone else?

Thank you.

Well, apparently you don't know the use of Airport Utility for this which it would have been helpful to say in the beginning.

Open Airport Utility. Select the TC and click on the Manual Setup button. Select the Advanced icon in the toolbar and click on the Port Mapping tab.

Click on the [+] button to add a configuration. In the topmost fields you enter the Public port number - 9000 in both the UDP and TCP fields. In the bottommost fields enter the Private port number - also 9000 in both fields.

The Private IP field is for your computers IP address. Open Network preferences, select your port - Airport or Ethernet whichever you are using. The IP you want is the one listed as IP Address: in the display on the right of dialog. Fill in that number in the Private IP address of the Airport Utility dialog.

Click on the Continue button. You'll be able to provide a name for your service so fill that in. When all is completed you need to click on the Update button of Airport Utility to update the TC configuration.
