Can't play youtube videos all of a sudden

Hello,

I have been trying to access my iTouch's youtube feature. I can find videos, but when I tap on one to play it, I get a message saying "this movie cannot be played". No matter what the video is, I keep getting the same message. It is not my WiFi connection; I can access anything and everything. Also, I have been able to play youtube videos before, just suddenly I can't. It's just recently when I find a youtube video and tap to play it, I get that "this movie cannot be played" message. Any reason why, and is there a way I can fix it?

Thank you.

I've been having the same problem and I do have the latest update. It either says the video won't play, or it only partially loads, plays for 2 seconds and then stops. I've added quite a few more apps since youtube was working when I first purchased the ipod, however. So is there not enough room on my ipod anymore for the videos to finish loading? There is at least 1GB free space yet.

I have a 2nd gen iPod touch running 2.2 and i also have this problem. i noticed it around 5am UK time.

i can, however, confirm that this is not a problem that is just isolated to the iPhone / iPod touch. I have an G1 phone running Android, and this is unable to view any YouTube videos.

since this is a problem that transcends platforms, it would appear that there is a problem at YouTube/Google's end, and as such i implore you all to forward your problems with YouTube over to their discussion forums and make them aware of the problem

I have an iPhone and an iPod Touch, both just a month old. They have both been playing youtube content without a glitch over the same wireless network. The iPod still does, but the iPhone gave in, from one minute to the next, early this morning (CET). All youtube content refuse to play back with the message "This movie could not be played", but, strangely, ONLY on the iPhone. Just tested it again now. iPod fine, iPhone fails. Mail and Safari and everything else is equally fine on both units. Restoring 2.2.1 on the iPhone had no effect... is this a Youtube issue?!?

I have an itouch with the same problem of SOME youtube videos getting a "this movie could not be played" message while accessing youtube from Safari.

However, if I access youtube from the icon instead (not going through Safari) the same video can now be watched.

So I would have to say this narrows it down to a Safari (which works fine in all other respects) or a youtube issue.

problem seems a bit inconsistent then... me too can now only play movies via Safari and NOT directly from the YouTube app. (although when I first encountered the problem this morning it was when I clicked on a YT link in Safari...)

I have now come across a few random movies that will load and play directly in YouTube app. although the loading seems slower than yesterday.

The most puzzling to me is that my iPod Touch, sitting in the same room on the same wi-fi has had no such problems whatsoever...
