Youtube Not Playing

When I tried to play several youtube videos on my iphone
tonight...it came back with an error message saying
"This movie could not be played". This happens for any
video I select. Anybody have a clue about this?

because the iphone has the power to emulate so much this shouldnt be hard Imobilecinema which is a app for jailbroken iphones can play FLV videos and buffer them on the phone without any website. I'm not asking much from my iphone i just want to watch videos that arent broken into 3 8min segments and even usings apps like Mxtube which downloads youtube streams and saves them on your phone its still not the same...I hate because i love.
You cant make a product and expect the internet to bend over backwards for it as popular and good as it is

I decided to restore using a backup rather than restoring as a new iPhone. This seems to have fixed the issue for me. I was running 2.21. I watch youTube videos almost every night and I guess something got corrupted. I could get some videos to play but all the videos I had watched previously, despite clearing history, failed to play. I tried shutting down and restarting and resetting the phone before resorting to the restore.

Hi I'm experiencing this problem as well.
It started last night, the three bookmarked videos I always watch and always worked stopped working. My wi-fi was connected (my own wireless in my house) and normally it works through that and 3g it normally works as well but all of a sudden it stopped. I try any video and none of them works. It would go to the loading screen then three seconds later the notice "this movie could not be played. ok" i tried restarting many times. i dont really want to restore and lose my data and stuff.

it's really frustrating wish I could use my youtube videos i love listening to certain songs through that. I'm gonna try the whole google path and hopefully that will work. hopefully we can find a solution for this seems like a big problem for alot of people.

i live in socal is it a regional problem? or iphone problem. or youtube

Now it seems that only videos I previously watched are giving me the 'movie could not be played' error. Other videos work OK.
Could it be a sort of youtube app cache problem?
This is one of the video I have in my bookmarks and it refuses to play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVEdYYMlOJ4

You can get the above video by searching 'rolling stones far away eyes' within the youtube app. The video is posted by the user horaciow14.
Is this working for you?
We can post here other videos that refuses to play to do a bit of testing.
Thanks

the one you mention plays fine here, but I had not played it before so...
Only ONE out of 40 videos in my bookmark list have been playing fine since yesterday, otherwise there's still no luck with previously played movies. However, they all play fine when started in Safari...but doesn't Safari just start the YouTube application for playback?! Then this is a mystery... perhaps a lot of us got some virus yesterday..?

It's like the iPhone sort of remembers from a cache the past failed attempts to watch a video.
Yesterday for me it was almost impossible to watch a video, and some of the clips I used to test -pretty much my whole set of my bookmarks 😟 - are now refusing to play...

Is it possible to delete the youtube cache -assuming there's one- on non-jailbroken devices?
This is kind of sad: 6 months of bookmarks impossible to use 😟

THIS FIXED IT FOR ME:
Restore the phone, and update as NEW PHONE (not from a Backup).
all movies from my previous bookmark list tried so far work without a glitch.

(then tried to restore from a Backup, 3 weeks old(!), got same problem!, then repeated the NEW PHONE procedure again and all is well.)

Hence the problem seems to be local, with the phone/pod and not with YouTube. Did we get a virus yesterday or was there a sun storm?
