JVC GY-HM100U

Anybody buy the new JVC GY-HM100U camera? It is supposed to be basically tailor made for FCP users. Any of you guys have it? Would you recommend it? I'm trying to decide between the JVC GY-HM100U and Canon canon XH A1.

Mac Book Pro 15" (2008), MacBook Air, Mac Mini, iPhone 3G 16 GB, Mac OS X (10.5.6), counting the seconds until my Mac Pro is shipped!

Hi, I just started with the JVC GY-HM100U
SHDC cards are easy to remove and then use a USB reader to copy the files onto my macbookpro. The files can then be imported directly into FCP

Am still trying to sort out the best settings for FCP and my MOTU V4HD interface.
Seems like I need to customise one the presets to cope with the .mov files produced.

Anyone else got experience of this camera and FCP??

I just started to use the HM100 camcorder also, but only in FCE. Do you experience that the HD mov files need to be rendered or the RT playback reduced before they can be played in the editor? Maybe it's my iMac and not FCE or FCP at fault. So far I very happy with the SDHC, native Quicktime format and the video images that this camcorder produces. The price is another story!

Make sure your SD card reader can handle SDHC cards; many cannot, especially multi-readers purchases over a year ago. None of mine can deal with them, but I got a freebee with a Transcend 8GB SDHC Class 8 card from Amazon. Works perfectly.

But I don't have the HM100 yet, either. I'm awaiting a real review with real numbers. All of the reviews so far are subjective (looks real good; look at this video of me standing out in a field 😉. There is no spec by JVC on the sensors and they are using pixel shifting; so are they real 1920x1080 pieces or something different? Low light measurements (how noisy?) are needed, too. 1/4" sensors are mighty small, and with my Sony V1U, low light noise is pretty high; Resolution in good light is terrific, though.

But for me, the price is good if the resolution and low light performance are good: about 1/2 or less then the Sony Ex1/3 cams (with the 1/2" CMOS sensors), and much smaller.
