funeral for my iPod?

My iPod ran out of battery about 4 days ago and that same day I connected it to my outlet charger overnight how I usually go about it. The next morning, my iPod didn't even turn on. That night, I connected it again and realized that the little battery symbol did not appear. I guessed my cable was damaged so today I'm borrowing a friend's. Now that I connect it with hears, the backlight turns on (but no display) for a second and then fades off. I try to reset it but nothing happens. Is the battery way drained and I need to wait a lot? What is happening? Is my iPod Photo dead?
