iPhone and Motorola S9

What is the current solution and the projected solution set to allow the Motorola S9 headset to be used with the iPhone in both the Cell Phone Calling Mode and in the iPod mode?

As of today I am unable to successfully adapt the S9 and the iPhone.

I am having the same issue with my Motorokr S9-HD but you know what I found interesting is when you go to the NIKE+ settings, you can match a remote to the iPhone like the AMP+, and there is an image of the Nike+ remote on the screen. I matched mine and none of the buttons work. It shows that the two are paired but no dice. It’s like they missed some programming or something. I mean the device is depicted on the phones native app, why wouldn’t it work?

Thanks SuperSizelt. I understand that but why should it be like that from Apple! I sent a message to Apple few days ago informing the functionality problem on my Motorola S9 headphone working with iPhone 3G with O/s 3.0 but they haven't responded. I know there's nothing wrong with my S9 headphone but I don't understand why the O/s 3.0 was released by Apple for iPhone that doesn't provide full functionality with Motorola S9, one of the most popular Bluetooth headphones available in the market or any other similar A2DP Bluetooth headphone.

FWIW, I called Apple about this and the Tech I spoke to couldn't find any reports of the problem (a day or so after the 3.0 update). She escalated the issue to the next level. About two hours later I got a call back from the same Tech saying that the issue was being escalated to "engineering" and (hopefully) a fix would be included in a forthcoming update/release. Time will tell....

Also, I disabled the BT on the iphone and went back to my Sony BT adaptor and all the functionality is back (i.e. next/previous), so I'll use that until a fix is in place.

I am on a first-gen iPhone and have just updated to the 3.0 software.
I have been trying to use the Motorola S9 with the iPhone to listen to music, but so far, I have only been able to get it to work for phone calls.
It was my understanding that the 3.0 software would allow the S9 to work for iPhone's music as well.
Can anyone confirm if this is the case - and if so - whether there is some extra step involved? (When I try to play music when the device is paired, the music simply comes out of the iPhone built-in spearkers)

All working fine with the latest *3.1 iPhone update*. The phone paired without any problems.
Switch bluetooth on and off the switch you Motorola S9. It will take approx. 30s to find. It will indicate HEADSET first then it will display MOTOROLA S9 not paired. Wait a bit more and it will connect.

To access the Bluetooth setting Click on the Settings>General>Blutooth

Sorry for the two similar posts but couldn't delete the first one.

After further testing I would like to mention that although everything seems to work fine, I am getting a very unpleasant audio/voice delay when watching a movie via iTune/iTV. Bluetooth doesn't seem to be able to cope with the streaming audio, this will put you off watching any movie with the S9.

I've just gotten the iPhone 3GS and the Motorola Rokr S9 HD headset to (*) work together again, after a couple of days of pulling out my hair because some things worked and other things didn't. Here's what I found:

1) To clear the headset memory of all devices it's been connected to, power it off, then press and hold the power button for a bit over 10 seconds. When the light comes on solid blue, it's ready to pair to the "first" device.

2) To pair with other devices, turn off any currently-paired devices (or disable BT on your other device), power off the headset, and power it back on with a 3-second press. It'll notice it can't find it's paired device and go back into pairing mode (solid blue light) so you can pair to a second device. Power off the headset, turn on BT on both devices, and then turn the headset back on, and (it's supposed to) connect to both devices.

NOTE: This doesn't really work well with the iPhone, as it takes over the headset and headphone tasks, so if you connect to another device (like my MacBook) with headphone and headset profiles, the device gets confused. This is how I lost my "Play/Pause" button functionality, the headset was still sending AVRCP commands to my MacBook(!) while receiving audio from the iPhone.

If you start getting weird results, like I had above, delete the profiles from all attached devices ("Forget" this headset from the iPhone interface), reset the headset as in 1) above, POWER CYCLE THE IPHONE, and pair them again. I didn't get everything to work properly until I power-cycled the iPhone...

(*) Working here means pause/play and volume controls work, but the forward and rewind buttons do not work. This is supposedly fixed in 3.1, not to be confused with the 3.0.1 patch that just came out for the SMS fix. Also, while pressing and holding the "Phone" button will cause the last call to be redialed, pressing it briefly will cause a beep, but will NOT cause the voice dialer app to listen to the headset microphone and dial your call, voice dialing only works with a long press of the center button on the iPhone and speaking into the microphone on the iPhone. Hopefully this will be fixed in 3.1, but who knows for sure?

Anyway, you probably shouldn't try to pair with multiple devices, if you have problems reset, reboot, and try again, and the additional functionality you should naturally expect from BT devices is coming Real Soon Now.

I've decided to return my S9 HD (and my Jabra speakerphone/FM transmitter box) and stick with the Apple BT Headset. Too many weird combinations of control, sound, phone, and too many things not quite implemented properly, it's just not worth screwing around with.

If I could somehow merge the three devices, and add an audio output jack to interface with my car stereo, I might want it, but I'll (ahem) "let the market mature" a bit more before I dip my toes back in.

Besides, the S9 wasn't very comfortable for long-term wear. Generally disappointing all around.
