What is the current solution and the projected solution set to allow the Motorola S9 headset to be used with the iPhone in both the Cell Phone Calling Mode and in the iPod mode?
As of today I am unable to successfully adapt the S9 and the iPhone.
The iPhone supports the bluetooth headset and hands free profiles. It does not support A2DP(stereo over bluetooth). If you would like, you can leave feedback requesting A2DP here:

Does the iPhone see the headset when its discoverable? Try making the headset discoverable and pairing it as described here:

I suffer the same mindless omissions of basic, basic functions (file transfer, cut and paste / drag and drop) by Apple and now my beloved S9 barely works (in Mono as a hands free phone only). Apparently Apple will include full use of the S9 in their much touted V.3.0 whenever that will be.

I'm actually using it right now, as I type this, to listen to music. Unfortunately, it does require an adapter for the time being. I hear the summer software update may be helpful, though.
*Instructions with adapter:*
Pair it with your iPhone first.
Turn off Bluetooth.
Pair the adapter with the S9 for music functionality.
Turn Bluetooth back on the iPhone for call functionality.
Sorry I misconstrued what he said, I thought the name of the software was SUMMER????
He was referring to the 3.0 upgrade coming out in June/July which rumor has it that we all should not update our iPhones due to it being glitchy. We'll see I guess, I know I don't wanna be the first guinea pig.
Now onto that ADAPTER we all should have.
I am running iPhone OS version 3.0 and I have the Motorala S9 headset. I am able to listen to music and place and receive calls. The solution is to wait until v3.0 is released. No additional equipment is required for the use of the S9 headset, so that is a plus.
I'm running iPhone OS 3.0 GM Seed, which is a near final release, the final release itself is out on the 17th (this upcoming Wednesday). The Bluetooth A2DP profile works, although it does skip sometimes when you are doing multiple things as your music is streaming. The one thing that I'm not satisfied with is that the skip-forward/backward buttons on the S9 headset do nothing but make sound in your ear. The answer/hang up button works, as do the play/pause button and volume buttons. Hopefully that helps you out, no additional hardware is needed, except for the S9's.
just a heads up. i just connected my S9's against iphone 3.0 on 3G(i've had them for a while for use with other products) and they work great. Sound quality is great. I had to pair twice to begin with because the first pairing was horrible so keep that in mind. as others have posted at various sites the 'next' and 'back' track buttons dont work on the original S9's but supposedly do work on the S9 HD's so keep that in mind. all other features work. for me this is kind of crappy because when i go for a run or ride i like the ability to quickly be able to skip a track if it is not motivating for exercise. otherwise, volume up/down, pause, play and phone functions work fine. i may have to crack and purchase the HD version just for the forward and back buttons to work but will test taking the iphone on long rides....it is a little too heavy to take on outdoor runs but is fine sitting on a treadmill shelf and transmitting. wow! on another note i just walked 40 feet from the phone and the sound is still strong. i even walked around a corner and into a closet and still great sound. the dongle that came with my original S9 never did a great job of transmitting bluetooth very far but i've noticed that on my curve and now the iphone the transmission is much stronger. hope this helps. -robert
I'm just curious as to how you were able to pair your S9 with your iPhone for both phone and music. I've been trying with limited success as I can only use it for phone functions. I'm not sure if I'm not able to do so because I currently have a 2nd Gen. iPhone not the 3G. Any help would be appreciated.
you can only do this as of yesterday. you have to upgrade to version 3.0 of the iphone software using itunes. before 3.0 firmware and OS only the phone worked.
I've upgraded my 2G iPhone to the 3.0 firmware that came out yesterday. I can no longer get sound out of my S9 headphones even though they are paired with the iPhone. Previously I was able to get mono iTunes sound (using no adapter) as long as the phone screen was constantly on and I was in the phone's Voice Mail screen with "Audio" selected and the S9 device. (could also receive calls). Sound would, however, also come out of the phone's speaker at the same time. Now I get nothing doing the same procedure and the two devices paired.
