I saw the other thread as well, which is why I was trying to figure this one out. Everything I've done gets saved, but clearly there is some kind of issue here. Have you shared this project, then gone back and made changes that were not saved? Or never shared the project? Did you ever use the iMovie duplicate feature on this project? There has to be some kind of pattern to make this happen.

Within this topic... it took me a little time to realize it auto saved everything and that is alright. The problem might be is WHERE is it saving it to. In most projects i think I could save it to the movies or document folder and know where it is... with this auto save feature... I don't know where it is until I open iMovie...a bit of a problem but not the end of the world..

I'm having the same problem, I can make one change and then I can't do anything to the project. I can't drag anything including stills, titles, etc and I can't view the properties or duplicate the project. I'm minutes away from finishing this video and I can't seem to solve this problem. btw we are not talking about an auto-save issue. I know the concept of autosaving, there is some other bug with iMovie.

May I add my voice ... newbie to iMovie 09. Completed an 8 minute video and made some changes to titles and captions. Closed the program. Shared to iDVD but didn't save the project because the dvd was a "draft." Went back to iMovie project and the changes were not there. Fortunately, we can duplicate the dvd, but don't understand why the project was not saved, better yet, why we don't have a way to"save" it so this doesn't happen.

Yes, same problem here...
Setup a video file for a client. Added a text frame at the beginning, of which I edited at a later time.

Went into the programme the next day, as my client wanted a DVD copy, and the text frame had reverted back to the previous version. It didn't save the new text! God knows what else it didn't save - Absolutely useless.

Luckily I'd exported it at very high quality the day before, so was able to use this to burn to a DVD instead.

Val: I disagree. I was not able to duplicate in the library, but right-clicking in the finder worked. Thanks for the idea. I can't tell you how (insert expletive here) I am with the dumbing-down of iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD. Thank G*D they haven't screwed up Garage Band. That's the only way I've found to fade sound clips for my iMovie projects. Are they trying to force us to buy Final Cut or Premier Pro? I liken the limited "expert" tool access to having a vehicle where you want to change the timing or air/fuel ratio but aren't able to open the hood.

Monkeys can now make movies, but the folks who know what they are doing are banned to mediocrity.

Thank goodness I found this thread and I know I'm not insane. I keep losing my changes, and am now going to look for the pop up save menu that someone mentioned. I am also having a terrible time with the precision editor-- the audio wave doesn't appear for me. I was thinking it was my computer (I just upgraded to Leopard and iLife '09) but now I'm guessing it's another iMovie bug.

iMovie will not auto save all of your changes, even if you close out properly. I found out the hard way when I had to go over and make the same changes again, even after I uploaded the final project form iMovie to youtube. Everything on youtube was correct, but when I closed out iMovie and came back to it the next day...those changes were gone.

Apple need to have a manual "save", that should be a standard along with auto save to be on the "safe" side.
