ipod remote control not working properly??

Hi,
Just bought the new Apple remote control & universal dock to go with a 60GB 4G colour ipod. The play/forward/back buttons on the remote work fine, but the volume controls and menu button don't seem to anything. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Does this just sound faulty, or is there something I may be doing wrong?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

I don't think the menu button is supposed to do anything, but volume should work.

See if resetting the iPod helps...

Although I suspect that it could be the remote

Univeral dock user guide: "Menu button (for use with other Apple product)"

Apple remote description on website: "The Apple Remote offers play/pause, volume control and forward/back buttons."

volume control working only if your speakers are connected on the universal dock

I have the exact same problem... by the way, since I have the old iMac G5 and I got the Front Row, do you think that if I manage to get an infra-red "thing" to connect to a USB port, my remote control would work with it?
