Q: Drive won't read any dvd-ejects it automatically after spinning some time

Avant il m'était impossible de lire des cd et DVD gravé ou vierge. Depuis ca fonctionne grace à cette méthode!!! Et je peux meme de nouveau graver...

I solved this problem by doing SMC reset. now my superdrive can read any DVD again

I gave up and took my MBP to Apple. They shipped it to Texas for repairs. $325 later, it was great. Whole new motherboard AND new SuperDrive. Ossum.

After a few months, the SuperDrive crapped out again. Lived without it for a while. Upgraded to Mountain Lion OS. Bought an external LaCie 2.0 drive. It didn't work either!

Bought another drive, this time from OWC. Compatible with USB 2.0 AND USB 1.1. It works great!

They key for me: My MBP is older and has only USB 1.1 ports. Some of the new external SuperDrives from LaCie work only with USB 2.0 ports.

Keep this in mind if you have a MBP that is four or five years old, and you are buying a new external SuperDrive/DVD-R burner unit.

Make sure your external burner is 1.1 compatible.

I've got 15' Macbook Pro early 2011

I have the same issue with a MacBook Pro Late 2008. Optical Drive only works when I insert the Snow Leopard DVD, but does not with any movie or music DVD.

Nope not really!!

The *accepted* solution is:-

1. Take the lense cleaning cloth
2. Wrap it around one of your old credit/debit card
3. Insert that to clean the super drive for some 2/3 minutes
4. It should be up again.

Tried and tested.

Please let us know it it works.

Guy I place the 2 card in the SuperDrive Slot and gently push down the lense cleaning cloth. I guess the lense is aorund teh left "Shitf" and the "returnn" keys try to clean it better.

When I talk with the Support guy of a local resellaer, he suggest that the lens may be with dust.

Try again, because if it sounds/move when you insert a disk and then appear that it's a bank disk (message appear in the screen) must be that the lense needs a wipe out!
