Q: Drive won't read any dvd-ejects it automatically after spinning some time

The SuperDrive on my MBP has stopped recognizing/reading any blank DVD media (and many recorded DVDs, including movie discs). It spins for some time with a noise and then ejects it out. The same media works fine in my wife's Sony Vaio laptop.

There was a thread on this previously, but Apple has closed it:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1295681

I know Apple won't own up to the problem, so has anyone found a solution?

Hey adding my MacBook 2010 model to this list. Was fine, then WHAM started ejecting constantly. Have not yet tried the many solutions here but wanted to let yall know that I am very unfond of Apple now. I have had to replace the bottom case due to rubber seperation, the screen, web cam, and the keys, now I probably will go ahead and self replace the drive too. *Sighs* Shame that the software is so good, but the hardware? Not so much.... Apple your charging american made prices for over sea's made junk, knock it off.

WHAM causes all sorts of problems for us all.

    Specially in North London.

Yeah i'm a bit jaded with Apple… but still, best of the worst. Couldn't do my TV-graphics life without em.

AMAZING - Followed these simple instructions word-for-word. All of a sudden, my MBP 2009 is now reading all of my Memorex DVD-R and DVD-RW that were ALL being spit out constantly over the last few weeks.

    **** yeah!

FOUND A FIX (for me at least)

I saw another discussion board and a guy just tried putting a glasses cleaning clothe over his drivers license and sticking it i the left side of the drive opening a few times and the drive then working. I figured it would be a long shot for this to work but I thought I might as well try so I did and I'll be darned, the thing works now! hope that helps some people! I'm working with an older mabbook pro with the HL-DT-ST disk drive.

Yes unbelievably this worked for me he drivers license with the eye glass lens cleaning cloth starting from the left side of thedrive opening. Amazing.  I think I'm going to get out my wood block printing materials.  I must admit these day's i'm really getting to dislike Apple.  The people on this board are more intelligent then the apple Wht do you expect I guess from Ma bell apple

To correct a few spelling errors so i'm clear. Yes I wrapped a drivers license in a lens cleaning cloth and pushed it into the drive slot on the left side.  Moved it to the right a few times  and it fixed the problem wierd...now netflix discs play on my macbook pro again, weird.  If anyone has oppened one of these machines up it's funny to look at it inside.  Looks like parts from a transistor radio from 1967 with taped up ribbon wire.  looks  like the overpriced junk it is, I'm afraid.

I've been a mac person for a long time... really would like to like this company the way I used too but in truth they make mechanical/electronicly over rated  crap these day's.  I guess just like the rest of the inovators out there, so what can you say, when your busines model is based on making phones assembled by slave labour in China and other parts of the third world you are what you are.  Yes "apple prisoners" we all are, for now anyway.  Amazing how the company with the George Orwell 1984 Riddley Scott commercial has become the Big Brother of our present...Kind of a sad twist on things actually..When I see Steve Jobs face on cabs these day's in NY still pathetically staring out at me I think "double plus good" Steve "Double plus good" then I try to avoid thinking about my 5 minutes of hate when I get home and stare at my stupid I pad.  Pull out that credit card man.... Steve Needs your money in ****.... it's hot down there.

Worked for me! Used a bizz card and a screen cloth started on the left hand side made a couple of passes to the right. Drive was then able to read and mount a DVD it had previously ejected, was also getting the the error code 0x8002006E when trying to burn a DVD.

I think I went about 1" perhaps !-1/4"  the combo of the card and the cloth was about same depth as a dvd.

In the beginning, I didn't think this would work and I tried it a few times and still no avail. I decided it was worth a shot so I covered my entire card with the cloth and put it in the dvd player and went back and forth a few times all the way to the right and all the way to the left.  I tried it one last time and ta da! It worked   Thank you to the user who posted this fix, it saved me from being frustrated at the Apple store.  I think it is just dust that gets stuck in there btu I am not sure.

Had the same experience here. After the first try it made all sorts of strange noises, so I made another try and it worked! Thought I was crazy at first for shoving my ID with a piece of toilet paper.
