HDV Playback on PC

I made a video in FCP and exported using the HDV 1080i preset. I then took the video over to a PC and it says I need additional software. I am assumed this is a codec missing. When I tried to import that video into premiere on a pc, it said missing or unavailable codec. What codec am I missing and where do I get it?

Thanks for any help,
Andrew

THe HDV codec only comes with FCP. Any computer without FCP cannot see that file, not even another Mac. If you convert it to ProREs (via Compressor), and the person on the PC downloads the ProRes decoder, they can work with it then.

They will have to convert to another format before they send it back though. They cannot ENCODE to ProREs with that file.

Hi,
FCP exported HDV won't work on a PC.
A client of mine asked me once to export some huge uncompressed HD from original HDV files to use on his PC and those worked fine for him.

However, one workaround could be to install[ProRes codec for windows|http://support.apple.com/downloads/Apple ProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forWindows] on your PC (Running QT 7.5 or higher) and export your edit as ProRes.
