Power Button on iPhone doesn't work?

It works maybe once out of 15-20 times I press it. I think the wires maybe be disconnected or a problem similar to that. I was wondering the steps I need to take to get this fixed and if I will have to pay apple to fix it?
I would hate to have to send my phone into apple but I'm willing to do it.

Hi Steven,

Try the general tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1650#faq22

If you are using a protective case with the iPhone, try testing without it.

If removing the case and trying the tips in the article above do not resolve the issue, the iPhone may need hardware repair. Make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.
