Q: How do I turn off the PPPoE menu bar thingy?

I'm going through a cable modem... and in my menu bar has this <=> thing that is somehow a PPPoE selector?

First question.... CAN I delete it?

Secondly, how do I get rid of it? ...just go to SysPrefs/Network and delete the PPPoE form the left menu?
