NAS Server name changed from RO-PAY to RO-PAY-1 (how to change it back)

I have a NAS Server and know my volume name is RO-PAY-1 (it should be RO-PAY).

Know I have problems with my Thunderbird, the pahname should be:
/Volumes/RO-PY/DriveX/StartUp/Thunderbird

I can't manage to change it to the old name. When I go to the NAS Server with Finder I see that the name is not RO-PAY but RO-PAY-1.

With ls -Al /Volumes/ I get this:
imac-van-ronald-ferdinandus:~ ronaldferdinandus$ ls -Al /Volumes/
total 40
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 1 26 feb 20:44 Macintosh HD -> /
drwxr-xr-x@ 3 ronaldferdinandus admin 102 23 feb 20:26 RO-PAY
drwx------ 1 ronaldferdinandus staff 16384 27 feb 2009 RO-PAY-1

Does anybody know how I can delete RO-PAY-1 and get the old name back.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I had a similar problem with my external drive suddenly changing it`s name. Let`s say it was "XYZ" - it became "XYZ 1".
Eventually tracked the problem down to a folder called "XYZ" that had somehow appeared in the "\Volumes" folder (Finder | Go | Go to folder | \Volumes)

Ejected drive, deleted this folder (having first checked nothing in it!) and re-connected drive.
All is now well 🙂
