Wrong thumbnails are displayed

In the first third (approx) of my iPhoto Library, a wrong thumbnail is displayed for each photo. The tumbnail displayed is that of a photo in the latter part of the Library. Any ideas of what is wrong and how to correct it.

Thank you

John:

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. Then manually set the permissions on the iPhoto Library folder as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.

If that doesn't fix the problem delete the three thumbnail data files in your iPhoto Library folder and launch iPhoto.

Finally launch iPhoto with the Command OptionShift keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. That will create a new library folder titled "iPhoto Library_1". If that clears up your issue and all is well then delete the original library folder to free up your HD.

John,
If your thumbnails don't coincide with their respective images, you'll need to let iPhoto rebuild the library database. Although you might lose some aspect of the current organization (some keywords or albums might be lost, and possibly some roll associations may be altered, but your photos will be intact), you will at least restore the thumbnail associations, and clear up whatever corruption may have crept in.

OT and John,

Thank you for your responses.

I resolved the problem by rebuilding the iPhoto Library. I deleted the three data files that OT mentioned and then rebuilt the iPhoto Library.

When that was completed, there was the iPhoto Library and iPhoto Library_1. The three data files were recreated in iPhoto Library.

The photos in iPhoto Library displayed correctly. Whereas in iPhoto Library_1, the photos which had the incorrect thumbnails now all had film roll dates as of the date of the rebuild. I ended up throwing out iPhoto Library_1 and keeping and using iPhoto Library.

Thanks again,
John
