Grapher: How to do Vector operations in

Hi there,

I'm a new user, and got my first mac recently. I have a question about grapher. I've searched the forums, Grapher documentation and even the old Curvus Pro documentation for this, but to no avail.

Grapher supports Vectors and some vector operations, like matrix multiplication.

However, I cannot find any way of performing a dot or cross product. To work around this, I tried writing a function to do the operation, but I can't extract components of vectors either. I tried using the option+8 • operator for dot product, but it didn't work.

Is there a work-around for this problem? Are dot-products and cross products not supported by Grapher? Is there a way to extract individual components from a vector?

Many thanks,

I think there is a French manual here which may indicate whether you can do what you want:

Hi again,

This leads me on to a new problem. I'm not sure if it's due to a bug in the software, or my misunderstanding of the proper function.

If I have two vectors, A and B

A=|1|
|1|

B=|2|
|2|

Now I try to subtract one from the other, and transpose:

D=(A-B)^T

This generates an error message, however if I do

D=A-B or D=(A-B)

E=D^T

It works as expected. Is there a proper way of bracketing vectors? Finally, can I generate a function to generate vectors, and take vector parameters? I couldn't get this to work:

transpose(V)=V^T

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Hi Tom,
How did you know about " Mode d'emploi Grapher, versions 1.1 & 2.0 " on french site "Mac & Prof" ? This manual is also on < <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://atlanticmac.free.fr/index.php?trucs=3&page=195 > with several .gcx files. Anyway, very pleased with the international renown of the book ! If I can help someone using Grapher 2.0 just e-mail me.
