Unable to connect to CIFS host - network printer problems

I keep getting this message "Unable to connect to CIFS host..." when I try printing from my macbook to both wireless network printers in my house. One printer is a Canon MP620 that is located near my laptop. The other is an HP in the other room. I tried rebooting the network and the Canon printer to no effect. My husband's pc in the other room can print wirelessly to both printers. So it's definitely a problem with the macbook. What can I do?

You need to tell us more detail about what you're doing and how the printers are connected to the network. That error is about Windows Printing - where the printers are directly connected to a Windows Computer.

With regards to the Canon MP620, it sounds like you have added the printer queue incorrectly. As Greg said, the error relates to connecting to a Windows shared resource using the CIFS/SMB protocol. The only way this printer would appear as a Windows printer would be from you trying to connect to the printer share via the husbands PC - or - you are trying to mount the memory card slot of the printer.

To add the Canon printer that is configured as a wireless device to your Mac, you need to open Print & Fax, click to Add and then select More Printers > Canon IJ Network. The printer name followed by its MAC address (a set of two numbers separated by a colon) should appear in this view and when you select it and click Add, a new printer queue will be added to your Printers list. If you now try to print you should not get the CIFS error.
