How to STOP synchronization of Outlook Exchange contacts to iPhone

Now that I have initial set up complete, and all 800 contacts on my phone, I'd like to be able to remove my personal contacts from my Outlook Contacts, but still have them on my phone. Is there a way to set it up so I still get email and calendar updates as they occur, but contacts remain static?

When I looked in settings on the phone, the option to turn off synching is there, but it says it will remove contacts from the phone??

Any help is appreciated.

Not possible.

You can sync contacts over the air, or direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process. You can do one or the other, not both at the same time. And with over the air syncing for contacts enabled, it can be changed to static.

With a MobileMe account, you can sync personal contacts and calendar events over the air at the same time with an Exchange account with contacts and calendar events for each account kept seperate. You can view contacts and calendars for both combined, or seperately.
