How to press f1, f2 etc.

As it is for most MacBooks, on my MacBook Air, f1 and f2 is to adjust your brightness, f4 to open dashboard etc. How do you press f1 and f1 etc in Mac mode just like you do on windows computers?

macbook air, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Simply hit the fn button on the left bottom of the keyboard while you hit the fonction touch.

You can also switch whether you prefer the mac to consider the fonction (brightness, etc) or the touch (F1, etc) in the keyboard panel in your system preferences.
