new mac using same sparse bundle

I got a new macbook pro to replace my old one. The new one has the same files and users as the old one (I copied them manually using firewire disk mode). The old one was backing up using TM to a Time Capsule. Is there any way that I can continue to use the existing Time Capsule sparse bundle to back up to with the new machine? If not this seems like a major flaw to me because creating a new sparse bundle on my Time Capsule will take up another 200 gigs of storage space with no files changed. I have to keep my old sparse bundle so that I have access to the old backups.

Is it true that everytime you upgrade your mac, you have to start from scratch with a new sparse bundle?
