Downgrading your iPod (tested from 1.1.3 > 1.0.3, Nano 3G, iTunes8, Vista)

*Downgrading your iPod (tested from version 1.1.3 to 1.0.3, Nano 3G 8GB, iTunes 8, Windows Vista)*

¤ Open iTunes and click on Edit > Preferences > General and uncheck "Check for updates automatically".
¤ Close iTunes.

¤ Download files (both needed) for version 1.0.3, 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 (these are only for iPod Nano 3G);
+#Version 1.0.3;+

+If you have an iPod Nano 3G skip this+ -----
If you have another iPod, find out by looking around the internet or inside your “iPod Software Updates” folder (see where to find it further down) what the name for the files needed should be. As you can see the files for iPod Nano 3G (version 1.0.3) is called iPod_26.1.0.3.ipsw and iPod_26.1.0.3.ipsw.signature, where the last three digits are the version number and the number 26 is what tells you that it’s for the iPod Nano 3G (I do not know what the number is for other iPods)
Use this to realize what the files you need should be called and look for them via Google like this (change iPod_26.1.0.3. to the filename for other iPod firmware (end with a dot));
(ipsw|ipsw.signature) iPod_26.1.0.3.
Look for addresses that resemble the ones above and download your firmware files (if you look at the addresses above you can see that for any version the two links are basically the same just that one ends with ipsw and the other with ipsw.signature, so if you find the address to one but not the other, just change it so that it ends with the other)
-----

¤ Make sure iTunes is closed.
¤ Disable your Internet Connection (Pull the LAN cable or disable your Ethernet/wireless device in the device manager)

¤ Delete or move the files in "iPod Software Updates" and replace with the downloaded files (sometimes there’s no files there to begin with)
*"iPod Software Updates" folder can be found at;*
+*#Widows XP*+ (I heard that it’s almost the same for Mac-users);
"C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates"
#Vista;
"C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates"
+*XXX is instead of a username+
+If you can not find the folders this is probably because you can not see hidden files and folders.+
+Open my computer (explorer) and press alt, t and o (to go to Tools > Folder Options), press the "View" tab and check/choose "Show hidden files and folders" and press Ok+

¤ Reset iPod Nano 3G by turning on and off the key lock, then press middle and MENU button until Apple logo appears (I think this is the same for all iPods)
¤ Connect iPod to PC and open iTunes
¤ Select the iPod and click "Restore", choose "Don't Check" when asked to look for updates. Agree to the restoration of your iPod to the lower/earlier version.

Hope this helped some who was looking to downgrade their iPod but did not know how. Mostly I hope it helps some to find these firmware files because that was my main problem.
