Headphone jack light turns red when disconnection headphones
i have Skullcandy FMJ's and just recently, when i unplug them, the light in the jack turns on to a red color and my speakers dont work. when i try to adjust the volume when my headphones are not plugged in, i get a greyed out volume graphic with a o with a slash through the middle. not i can only hear anything through headphones. help?
The headphone jack has a small switch for audio output. The red light you're seeing means the switch is stuck in the "on" position. You should be able to move it back into place fairly easily. Insert and remove your headphone cord a few times--till the light goes away. You can also try using a toothpick to flip the switch.
I recently had the same problem, and we used a stripped down Q-Tip with a little of the cotton still left on it. We inserted into the jack, twisted it around, and voila, light went off. I've heard the problem occurs when it's become dirty inside that jack, and you just need to clean it out so your computer no longer thinks your headphones are still plugged in. Way easier than that guy who took his whole computer apart...poor guy.
