Keeping Documents Folder Open

Is there a way to keep the Documents folder open? It annoys me when I click on a file and the Documents folder snaps closed, I often want to look through a number of files and hate to have to go down and reopen the Documents folder.

Is this happening in the Finder window.

If you hold down the option key when you open a file/folder, the original window will close.
It could be that it somehow thinks your option key is held down.

I click on the Documents icon on my dock and it opens a window showing a bunch of folders, if I click on a folder, the window automatically closes (and the folder I clicked on opens). I want the window with all the folders to stay open until I tell it to close.

That's how Dock stacks work. There is no way to keep it open except if you select "Open in Finder" at the bottom of the menu.

I hadn't tried opening in Finder before. That works alright and it does keep the window open. Thanks!
