I have been having same problem, except I had to de-install Perian because it was causing many of my vid files (mostly AVI's) --not all-- to play in B&W with green diagonal stripes through the frame. After Perian was tossed, my AVI vids worked OK for awhile, until I upgraded QT to 7.6 (Pro). Now my AVI vids have no sound, as well as some older MPG files. If I play them in VLC, they work just fine. They also work fine on in QT 7.6 on my PPC G5 QUAD under OS 10.4.11 and my G4 12" PowerBook also running 10.4.11.

The QT codecs link page is extraordinarily unhelpful, IMHO, in that there is no information nor a system present for guiding users to the codec they actually need, instead of wading through the sales pitches of many codec makers that seem to be irrelevant to normal end-user needs.

QT-related and/or video-related apps & codecs installed on my CPU include Flip4Mac, DIVx, X-Vid, RealPlayer, VeOH Player, VLC. All are latest versions.

Why do AVI's and some MPG's not work on the Intel Mac Mini??? Why can't Apple manage to build the most popular codecs into QT in the first place so users do not have to go through all this fiddling with codecs and conflicting obsolescences?

What's a fix for the lack of sound in AVI's & MPG's that will restore the sound and not recreate the problem with color loss and green stripes in those same videos?
