How do I use iPod without Itunes?

I would like to forego the pesky iTunes software and be able to use my Ipod without iTunes. Please help.

Thanks,
Captain

Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.

There really is no way to use your iPod Touch without a computer. A computer is required for the following

-Syncing of media content to and from the iPod Touch
-Updating the iPod Touch software
-Copying over your iTunes account to use in the App Store and iTunes WiFi store

Your more then welcome to use a computer long enough to update, sync info, and then use WiFi for all other features. But you will need a computer again when a software update is released that you may need and or need to fix the iPod touch at home. Otherwise you will need to visit an Apple Store and come back home to sync all data back to the current or replacement iPod Touch.

As you don't give any examples of what it is you don't like about iTunes, it's hard to recommend different software (or explain to you how to use iTunes). There are other software options but none of them will allow you to update the firmware so you will have to, at least occasionally, use iTunes.

Here's a place to start looking for other music managers:

iTunes will provide you with no protection from electrocution if you use your computer outside in a thunderstorm while holding a golf club.

But seriously, the software you do or don't use while connecting your iPod will not cause electrocution.

And don't you think comparing the use of iTunes to ethnic cleansing to be a bit... extreme? And trivializing of the suffering of actual victims of ethnic cleansing?

No, not really. Its involves the same mental process - attempt to control and direct the activities of other people. That's one of the reasons I do like Apple more than Microsoft, but Apple still is a control freak. I guess it comes with being human. The software becomes an extension of that human nature... Why not let the user decide how they want to use their software and hardware?
