Windows Explorer cannot Move, Delete or Rename .MOV files

I cannot Move, Delete or Rename .MOV files, created from different sources using Windows Explorer. I get message that file is in use by some other application. This problem goes away if I boot up in Safe Mode or remove Quick Time software. I've seen on other forums that several people have this same problem and their only solution is to remove Quick Time. Unfortunately, I need Quick Time to view websites like Photoshop Techniques.

If this was asked and answered here I'm sorry; couldn't find it.

What is there about installing QuickTime that locks up these .mov files that one can not delete them?

I had to use a dos command window to delete .movs and that works only if explorer.exe is ended with start / shutdown then, while holding down ctrl alt shift, clicking on cancel. After deleting files, explorer.exe needed to be restarted with the task manager file / new task / open explorer.exe

IrfanView is what forced me to install QT in order to play a .mov file. Wonder if it could have been trained to use vlc instead.

As I said, this problem goes away if I boot up in safe mode or if I delete QT. I have the problem immediately after I boot up so if I do have a conflict with another application, it may be running in the background after boot up. I'm not very tech savy but I can see that there are a lot of programs running in the background when I do a CTL-ALT-DEL and check PROCESSES.

I haven't had this problem forever so it may happened after one of my updates to QT (running 7.6 now). I've saved the earlier versions of QT but when I delete the current version and try to run an earlier on, it won't let me.

There's a site online that explains what each of these processes are that run in Task Manager. I'd also take a look in the Folder Options control panel at File Types and in the registry, HKEYCLASSESROOT and expand +.mov and take a look at what is showing in the OpenWithList. Just to try and get some info on what the application might be.

I looked at the OpenWithList in the registry and it shows QuickTime, Itunes, and a file called ShowTime.exe. Couldn't find this file on my drive so I deleted it. I removed QT 7.6 and replaced it with QT 7.1.3 and then again with QT 7.0. Still had the same problem. I then replaced it with QT 6.5.1 and the problem went away. Everything works fine now except I don't have the latest version of QT. I think I'll leave things as is and drop my persuit of this problem.

Thanks for all your advice.
