Powermac G4 AGP PRAM battery

I need to replace my PRAM battery as the time/date is not retained when the computer has been unplugged. The existing battery is a 3.6V 850mAh and the replacement was ordered as per this specification. What was sent though was 3.6V 1200mAh.

I have queried this with the company that provided the new battery and they advise that it should be ok. Is it?

G4 AGP 400 (upgraded), Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Yes, the 1200 mAh (or 1.2 Ah) rated battery is a preferable substitute and will have longer service life. In spite of the lower price, I wouldn't buy an 850 mAh battery (which you can still find). I buy a Saft LS 14250C 1200 mAh-rated battery for devices using that same lithium battery, which include my wireless alarm sensors.

Hi-

The higher mAh rating is a higher capacity. That's all.
The battery will be fine.

I'm using Saft LS 14250 with a 1100 mAh rating, in five different machines, and all are fine.

Newbie - question - can I just replace the battery without replacing the whole unit? Also, does the battery being dead also prevent the main battery from charging?

yourgeeman, It sounds like you have a G4 powerbook and not a G4 tower. G4 towers only have a PRAM battery....what the thread is about.
Try choosing the correct G4 powerbook battery forum.
