Should I Get Altitude On My Photos?

Hello Everyone,

I just tried using my iPhone's camera in some mountains with Location Services switched on. Looking at them in iPhoto, my pictures had latitude and longitude meta data associated with them but not altitude.

Is this simply a limitation of the GPS in the iPhone 3G or is something wrong?

My iphone photos do not seem to include altitude metadata either. I assume that it's just not included in the geo-tagging info, maybe the iphone doesn't calculate altitude.

So if I understand you correctly, you are saying that the GPS hardware is capable of providing altitude information but the Camera application doesn't tag the pictures with it. Is that correct?

Just want to make sure that I leave feedback in the right place.

How do you know this? Just curious about the source of the information as I googled quite extensively before posting and couldn't find the answer.

The GPS does altitude on the iPhone. I found this out from using an app in the App Store called Checkup. It shows lat/long, altitude, speed and course heading.

That is correct. The GPS can do it but the geotagging doesn't include altitude for the photo.
