Are you logged on with admin privileges?


Can you get it to install in a different Windows admin account?

You'd have to create a new account, it sounds like.




From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
Open User Accounts.
Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process.
Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu.
Log into the newly created user account.



When you 're in the User Accounts page, it should show whether your current user is an admin.

Is this XP SP3?
Sounds like your permissions are corrupt. I was getting some messages like that on XP SP2. Before I could upgrade to SP3, I had to run a microsoft utility to fix the registry.

I had to run the subinacl stuff from this page

Good luck! If you're not an advanced user, find a friend who is. I doubt I'll be able to help you over the internet if the steps in that microsoft article do not make sense to you.

I wonder if a disk check is worth a try, sometimes this kind of message can be due to a bad file or directory.
