Color Over Saturation

I want to run this by the forums before I give Apple a call, as it might just be how the screens are.

I've got a 17" MBP, the final incarnation before the unibody model came out. I've noticed that colors are over saturated. I'm a photographer, so this presents a little bit of a problem.

All you other 17" MPB users out there, are your colors also over saturated? Or did I end up with a bad LCD panel. I'm kinda hoping that it ends up being that I have a bad panel and they're not all like this...

For reference, as a comparison I have used my 17" Powerbook and my two 20" Cinema Displays. All three of these display the colors correctly.

One thing to check--go to Universal Access>Seeing and be sure the "Enhance Contrast" bar is set all the way to the left.

Did you get the matte or the glossy display? There has been considerable discussion on this topic. Some feel that the glossy is too saturated to be good for photography, but others disagree.

I checked the settings under Universal Access and contrast is set to normal.

I did get the matte screen. I guess I forgot to mention that before.

Checking the contrast setting in Universal Access made me think of another setting to check. I had calibrated my screen, I changed the color profile from what I had calibrated it to, back to the generic color LCD. It appears that my color calibration is what caused the over saturation.

I guess my next course of action is to re-calibrate and if that still doesn't work then maybe it's time for a new calibrator.

I'm using an i1 Display 2 from Gretag Macbeth. It's a few years old, and calibrates my cinema displays and powerbook just fine. It just seems to be having some trouble with my macbook pro...

Any ideas? If you use a calibrater like this, what do you use? I'm looking at the Huey Pro from Pantone, but am open to other suggestions if people have been having problems with that one as well.
