it seems like the answer to your question is "yes". i just got the mac mini & the mini-dvi to video cable does not work. I'm running software update & will remote into the box after to see if that works.

I can't believe this, after waiting over 12 months for the mini to be upgraded are we saying it wont work with an old tv using composite.

Also does it work with the mini to dvi adapter.

I currently connect my intel macbook to a standard TV with the mini dvi to composite adapter and connect the same macbook to a HD TV with a mini dvi-dvi adapter dvi-HMDI adapter with a audio cable.

Can anyone confirm if both these configurations will work with the new Mac Mini?

No, but I suspect they don't intend the new mini to be used for this purpose. This is perhaps one way in which they are trying to differentiate the mini and AppleTV device a little more.

To my knowledge you cant use the appleTV with composite either. So no difference there.

No, you can't, but there seems little doubt that the mini's use as a media device has impacted the sales of the AppleTV (understandably, since the mini seems much better suited in many respects) so it's no surprise that the ability of the mini to function in this role is perhaps being restricted a little.

I just posted a similar problem. I can't get my analog sony flat panel TV to work with my new mini. I am also using the mini-DV to s-video/composite video adapter cable. I don't know why Apple would worry about the Mini competing with Apple TV. The Mini costs $500 more--they can't lose.

Does anyone know for sure if the new Mini's will work with newer, digital TV's?

How can a Mac-Mini with analog out really compete with the Apple TV? I can't really get the Apple TV because it only puts out HDMI and component video, not composite video or s-video. The new Mac-Mini with the digital only output is probably more competition with the Apple TV now. The problem is, there is probably a good majority of users out there that don't have digital TV's yet. So now, like with the Apple TV, Apple has significantly limited the market of the Mac-Mini.

I cannot believe this. I even asked the guy at the shop when I bought the additional connector. This was a primary and mandatory requirement for me. They don't even tell front line that it doesn't work anymore. I have been burnt Apple. FIX the analog video interface, not now but RIGHT NOW!

Also the new Apple Mini DVI with female DVI, it does not connect to the Male DVI with svideo that I used with my last mac mini (now given to folks). The flat female DVI hole is too small for the male. Was this intentional?

I tried to boot just with the TV, a multi sync Grundig. I only got the apple logo image at boot but it was tripled. Then it disappeared...

This is a nightmare and a disgrace!

I tried a VGA to s-video converter but had problems with it. I had bought 2 new minis to replace the 2 I currently have as media centers. I'm keeping one to use as a server, but am returning the other. I bought 2 of the older minis that have been marked down. It looks like I won't be buy anything from Apple to use as a media center for several years until I get a digital TV. Or perhaps there's a USB to s-video output device?

I bought a VGA to S-Video/RCA converter for $26 and it works well. A lot of extra cables, which is annoying, but at least it works until i get around to getting a new tv.
But seriously, it is ridiculous that the mini-DVI to video cable no longer works with the mini, and even more annoying that all Apple store employees are still telling customers that it does work.

That works? Do you use display port or mini-DVI to S-Video?

With your setup, you could connect a new Mac mini to a old S-Video input TV? So you find the way we all looking for?
